Eat yourself better - heal your body through diet

Sugar Sensitivity*

Have you ever thought that your problems might be down to what you eat? Nutrition is the most important aspect of our lives and can have consequences that are far reaching. Balancing a healthy diet with exercise, basic supplements and some lifestyle changes can revolutionise how we feel.

I am particularly interested in the ideas of Dr Kathleen DesMaisons who has written several books about 'sugar sensitivity' - the idea that some people are genetically pre-programmed not to be able to handle sugar and/or alcohol well. Problems can lead to depression, over eating, headaches, tiredness, anger and many more - common problems in our modern world.

Dr DesMaisons' plan heals the unbalanced biochemistry in the brain, enabling the person to live the life they were born to do - confident, relaxed, happy and RADIANT!

Can you be addicted to sugar?

Yes! Physiologically sugar affects the same biochemical systems in your body as do drugs like morphine and heroin. If you don't get your regular fix of sugar you can experience withdrawal symptoms. White carbohydrates act on your body in the same way as sugars so even if you don't eat much actual sugar, the carbohydrates in your diet can have the same effect. A french stick gives your body a bigger 'hit' than a Mars bar does!

Dr Kathleen DesMaisons has developed a revolutionary program to correct our body chemistry. It works - and following the guidance she gives means that you can feel happy for the first time in your life.

What is Sugar Sensitivity*?

Sugar sensitivity is a condition where you have naturally low serotonin, low beta-endorphin and an increased blood sugar response to carbohydrates. Put simply it means that some people are affected by what they eat more than others, they may have a tendency to depression and tiredness.

brain chemistry It's all to do with brain chemistry!

Serotonin is a chemical in your brain, when levels are low you may feel depressed, have low concentration, be scatty and unfocussed. You may also have problems with self control. When serotonin is at a good level, you will feel optimistic, creative, focussed and be able to concentrate. You will also have good impulse control. You can "just say no!".

Beta-endorphin is another chemical in your brain, low levels lead to low pain tolerance, low self esteem, feelings of hopelessness and that life's 'not fair'. You will have cravings for sugar and carbohydrates and feel emotionally overwhelmed. Optimum levels of beta-endorphin lead to feelings of self confidence, being in control and responsible, being connected with others and having a high pain threshold.

Blood sugar - this is not the same as diabetes, there the problem is how low your blood sugar level falls, sugar sensitivity is concerned with how fast it falls. For some people eating sugars/carbs leads to a very high blood sugar level rise, and corresponding fall. This will lead to feelings of tiredness, confusion, fogginess, irritability and frustration.

However, by slowly changing when and what we eat, we can change how we feel - dramatically!

What should I do now?

Firstly do NOT be tempted to give up sugar - that is the worst thing you could do. Giving up sugar is a long process and is best done following the plan of Dr DesMaisons - so get hold of one of her books or visit her website (below).
